Tyler’s Job Retention

Tyler | FSET Story Spotlight

“FSET helped me to get to where I am today. I am not sure where I would be without the program; it helped me find my drive to keep moving forward.”

Tyler’s previous job had ended due to some health issues that impacted him at work. He was seeking job training and supportive services. He needed assistance in putting together a resume, job searching, and was interested in changing his career path and was unsure where to start the process.

Then, he walked into our Waushara office and enrolled in the FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program.

He had dreams of obtaining his Commercial Driver’s License in order to create his own trucking company. Eventually, he would like to give back to his community through opening a sober living home. Tyler had set goals of getting his GED and obtaining his CDL, as well as finding a part time job to allow himself the opportunity to further his education.

Working together on his immediate needs, he soon obtained a full-time position as a forklift operator. The job has given him the opportunity to work on the other end of the trucking industry, learning about logistics, shipping, and talking with current truck drivers which has solidified his dream of continuing on to obtain his CDL in the future.

FSET doesn’t end when someone gets a job. Job retention services continued to support him through the start of his employment. FSET was able to help with work boots and clothing vouchers to help him to be ready to start employment along with gas vouchers that helped him to get to and from work daily.

Tyler worked with FSET to get connected to Ray with Fox Valley Technical College in Wautoma to create a plan to complete his CDL. He also met with Angie, the Job Developer in our Region, to update his resume and discuss job opportunities. She provided him a connection with a local trucking company to discuss options for education and employment with their company. Tyler completed job searching activities that landed him his current position.

Now, Tyler is working hard on gaining knowledge and experience at his current employer. He is looking to take advantage of the opportunities they have to offer with trainings and is hoping to complete his CDL course and move forward with his dream job of owning his own trucking company.

“Tyler has been an excellent participant in the FSET program,” his case manager says, “He is very driven and has used those skills to find a job that he enjoys going to every day as well as a position that has set him on the path to achieve his dream.”

He worked hard to update his resume and connect with our job developer which helped him to land a very well-paying job in a field that he is excited about. Tyler has persevered through some ups and downs while in the FSET program and reached out to his case manager when he needed help with problem-solving, support, resources, and supportive services.

We are excited to see where Tyler is headed in the future!
